What is PT CAN?
PT CAN is the Trust's cultural awareness network.
PT CAN focus on and celebrate, the cultural diversities of The Prince’s Trust community (our staff, volunteers, young people and partners).
This network encapsulates the spectrum of the diversity we enjoy at the Trust, from ethnicity and race, through to culture and religion.
A deeper understanding and appreciation of the different cultures and communities which make up The Prince’s Trust will enable us to provide a higher quality of service.
What PT CAN does:
PT CAN support our strategic goal to become the best organisation to work, volunteer and support. A cultural awareness network allows staff to express themselves and empower them to do so in an inclusive manner while promoting our diversity externally.
PT CAN support our goal to help one million young people over the next ten years, by propelling us to becoming a more youth relevant brand.
PT CAN not only celebrate but also reflect the different elements of diversity we have amongst our young people and ensure the young people we reach are reflective of the needs of our society.
What is PT DAWN?
PT DAWN is our disability and wellness network and has been set up to promote an understanding of, and share best practice around, disability and wellness at work.
PT DAWN seeks to:
> Raise awareness and support disability equality at The Trust, by promoting a better understanding of disabilities, health conditions and lived experiences.
> Build a positive, open and supportive network for those with experience of disability or health conditions, to discuss issues relating to disability equality.
> Make it easier to navigate the experience of ill-health, disability or lived experiences while flourishing at work.
> Offer a credible presence for our community of people with disabilities and health conditions.
> Provide a forum for employee engagement, feedback, and ideas to inform projects and initiatives from across the Trust.
> Empower members to identify needs within the workplace, with the network as a forum through which we can drive and influence positive change.
What is PT GEN?
Up until January 2021, PT GEN was called PT NOW (Network of Women). PT NOW has had a fantastic impact: securing an organisational commitment to eradicate the gender pay gap, enhancing our family leave policy with a substantial increase to both paternity and maternity leave and, most recently, partnering with Barclays for a Trust-wide mentoring scheme. These changes help make the Trust a truly inclusive and great place to work.
Why the name change?
We want to do more. If we are to truly address the issues that face women, we need our male colleagues to take an active role and to be part of the conversation. We all have a part to play in creating an inclusive organisation and levelling the playing field.
It’s because of this that PT NOW has become the Gender Equality Network (PT GEN). With many colleagues facing the challenge of homeschooling and caring responsibilities, our first initiative as PT GEN has been to create a safe space for parents and carers, to share their experiences and ideas, and to support each other.
What is PULSE?
PULSE is our LGBT+ network, named after the awful attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The network works with colleagues across the UK, to ensure we have the best possible environment for colleagues, volunteers and young people from the LGBT+ community.
PULSE has three key streams of work:
> Programmes and Training - Aiming to ensure the Trust provides the right environment for LGBT+ young people, and that staff have the appropriate training and support to provide this.
> Accreditation - Working towards acquiring external recognition with the Trust for its work with members of the LGBT+ community, in part by working with our People & Learning function, to ensure our staff policies and practices are appropriate.
> Communications and Pride - Giving the Trust external visibility at LGBT+ Pride events, and ensuring internal visibility of Pulse.
